The partnership between Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Brazilian public health research institute Fiocruz marks the launch of a cutting-edge research centre at UFRJ Technology Park, an IASP active member. This new research facility aims to become an innovation-facilitating environment, especially in the health technology sector.
Structured around facilitating space for biotechnology, chemical and nanotechnology, the research centre will be housed in a 4,849m² building, on a 7,000m² plot. The sectors sharing the facilities will coexist and work together amidst the new modern platforms and practices.
Mario Moreira, President of Fiocruz, stated the collaboration as being the “heritage of UFRJ, Fiocruz and Brazilian society”. He added that the collaboration was important in helping reach the goal of “developing the country economically and, above all, socially”.
Fiocruz’s guidelines promote innovation-promoting environments, and its partnership with UFRJ is indicative of a strategic partnership, vital for innovation in Brazil.
